  • Macarthur Preschool has very experienced, caring and qualified staff who enjoy what they do.
  • Staff use the new "Early Years Learning Framework" for Australia, in partnership with families, to develop learning programs responsive to children's ideas, interests, strengths and avilities, and recognise that children learn through play.
  • We provide an environment rich in language where children are encouraged and supported to question, experiment and further develop their ideas and challenge their own thinking.
  • It is a learning environment where children, staff and parents are co-learners, learning about, from and through each other.
  • We value children as powerful and competent learners. Also relationships with families in the nurturing and support of each child.
  • Staff are involved in ongoing staff training and are challenged by and responsive to new developments in Early Childhood education.
  • It is a safe, secure and happy environment where staff and children share unhurried and respectful days.
  • Many additional needs children use our service and our staff have many years of experience in this field.
  • Children are involved in caring for their own vegetable and herb garden.  They are encouraged to use these herbs and vegetables in cooking epxeriences planned in the program.

Community Involvement

  • We liaise closely with local schools.  Every 4th Term meetings are set up with Kindergarten Teachers from the local schools to discuss children transitioning from Preschool to their school.
  • The staff link to other professional support services eg: Speech Therapists, Department of School Education, Early Intervention etc.  
  • The Preschool has a Resource Library for parents.
  • The Centre is involved in community events such as the Camden Show, The Biggest Morning Tea and Camden Kids Fun Day.
  • We hold annual family events including a Family Disco, a Father's Night and Grandparent's Mornings.
  • The children visit the local Retirement Villages each year to sing and speak to the residents.
  • Our Centre always accepts school Work Experience Students, TAFE and University Students for their Practicum.
  • Children are involved in Camden Council's Bush Regeneration and assist in tree planting projects within the local community.
  • We have a wonderful sustainable and interactive outdoor learning space that includes a dry creek bed, water pump that is connected to our rainwater tank, native plants and grasses, a vegetable patch, a frog pond, a mud patch, log car, a timber stage and 2 sandpits.
  • We have chickens where the children check for eggs each day and also use the eggs in their cooking experiences, a warm farm, a compost bin and 2 rainwater tanks.
  • The centre implements many sustainable practices on a daily basis, for example, separating recyclable rubbish, collecting children's food scraps for the chickens, worm farm and compost bin and watering plants using water collected in 2 rainwater tanks.
